The aim of the guard of honour was for the Barcelona players to stand back and applaud the Real Madrid team on to the pitch at the start of the match. Unfortunately, it would appear, that Rijkaard's side got the wrong end of the stick and seemed to think that they were supposed to stand back and admire Real Madrid for the whole of the match rather than just the bit before kick off. On last night's showing, Pep Guardiola, set to be confirmed tomorrow as Rijkaard's replacement, is going to have his work cut out motivating a side that cannot even rouse itself for a match against Real Madrid....
