There aren't too many real surprises as Luis Aragones names his 23 man squad for Euro 2008 and , as expected, Raul has been omitted , with La Liga top goal scorer Dani Guiza and Zaragoza's Sergio García added to the Spanish strikeforce.

Apprentice Guardiola: Rijkaard, You're Fired!

As the fate of FC Barcelona rests in the hands of Pep Guardiola, the young apprentice from the youth team, La Liga Review ponders the lessons that need to be learned by a Barcelona board that claims to be willing to accept responsibility for having failed, yet forces the individual who they let down the most, Frank Rijkaard, to pay the price with his job.

And then he sacked Frank Rijkaard.

In fact, it's a bit like that moment in the BBC series The Apprentice when some egoistical, arrogant, entrepreneurial wannabe says ' I'm willing to put my hands up and take the blame' ; then, when they realise that the axe is about to fall and they are being blamed, begins flailing around blaming everyone else within pointing distance as they desperately try and avoid the chop.

La Liga Results Match 36: Madrid Humiliate Barcelona

The aim of the guard of honour was for the Barcelona players to stand back and applaud the Real Madrid team on to the pitch at the start of the match. Unfortunately, it would appear, that Rijkaard's side got the wrong end of the stick and seemed to think that they were supposed to stand back and admire Real Madrid for the whole of the match rather than just the bit before kick off. On last night's showing, Pep Guardiola, set to be confirmed tomorrow as Rijkaard's replacement, is going to have his work cut out motivating a side that cannot even rouse itself for a match against Real Madrid....
