Spanish Football Transfer Gossip
Robinho is flourishing at Real Madrid under Bernd Schuster and the Brazilian's creativity and goals have salvaged some otherwise poor performances by the Merengues. However, as his agent reveals, the player very nearly joined Arsenal in the summer...
Robinho's performances this season have propmpted a lot of talk about securing the player's long term future at Real Madrid with an improved contract offer. Speaking on Spanish radio last night, the player's agent, Wagner Ribeiro said "Robinho wants to sign a new contract but we will have to wait and see what the club have to say. He likes Madrid, has adapted well to life here and is always professional."
However, the agent, went on to reveal that the player was unhappy with life under former Madrid coach Fabio Capello, and almost left the club in the summer .
Ribeiro said "Last summer I spoke to Pedrag Mijatovic and told him that Robinho was not happy with Capello keeping him on the bench and never playing him. I told him that Robinho had received an offer from Arsenal and that if he continued on the bench then he would like to move to London."
It would seem that the Real Madrid sporting Director rated Robinho very highly, even if Capello didn't, as the agent claims that "Mijatovic said that Robinho would become the best player in the world and that there is no way he would be allowed to leave Real Madrid".
The agent then talked up Robinho's hopes of winning the Ballon D'Or and claimed that "If Real Madrid had reached the Champions League Final in Moscow the Robinho would have won it," but admitted that " now maybe it's more difficult."
