Spanish Football Transfer Gossip
Reports in Spain claim that Rafa Benitez is keen on bringing Mallorca's young Argentine forward Oscar Trejo to Anfield as part of a loan agreement…
The 19 year old came through the ranks at his home town football club of Estrella Roja before being snapped up by Boca Juniors, where he made just one first team appearance for the Buenos Aires club. In spite of his limited experience, the forward was quickly the focus of interest from the likes of Sevilla and Real Madrid. However, it was RCD Mallorca who managed to convince the youngster to move to La Liga and he subsequently switched to the Balearic Island club in 2006.
However, since joining Mallorca, Trejo has found himself on the fringe of the first team and has enjoyed limited playing time in the Spanish Primera Liga. The player, who appears most comfortable playing just behind, or just off, a striker as a classical number ten, recently told Marca that " I don't regret coming to Mallorca at all, I'm really enjoying life with my family, and I need to keep working hard, just as any footballer would in these times. It's highly competitive here, but I don't think I'm any less capable."
The player added "It's a very good experience, and I have time to prove myself, I have talked with Gregorio Manzano and he told me that there is plenty of time, that I'm still young, and he hopes to get a chance to see me in the Copa del Rey."
However, the player has subsequently made just two starts for the Spanish club this season and has come off the bench just eight times.
Yet, when he has played he has impressed and even managed a goal against Real Madrid, scoring in the 23rd minute of the Copa del Rey match between the two sides, with Mallorca finishing 2-1 winners.
According to press reports, the youngster is growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Mallorca and he is concerned that a lack of playing time is jeopardising his place in Argentina's Olympic squad.
Rafa Benitez is said to be aware of the player's frustration and is hoping to tempt the player , whose contract at Mallorca expires in 2011, with a spell at Anfield. As the player told Marca recently: "Any boy wants to play, and I don't know whether to stay or go - we have to figure out what's best for everyone."
