Getafe coach Michael Laudrup, linked with the Manager's job at Chelsea, faces a selection nightmare ahead of his side's UEFA cup 2nd leg tie against Benfica this week: with as many as nine first team players sidelined. Cata Diaz has just been diagnosed with a knee ligament injury that rules him out for five weeks, while Granero and Manu del Moral both face a further 21 days in the recovery room…
Laudrup hailed his side's 2-1 win over Benfica in the first leg of the UEFA Cup last 16 as an amazing result in the club's history. However, Los Azulones cannot consider themselves through to the next round until they overcome a genuine injury crisis that threatens to cost them dearly in this week's second leg.
Also out through injury, alongside Granero, Cata Diaz and Manu Del Moral, are Mario Álvarez, David Sousa, Miguel Pallardo and Ikechukwu Uche.
Braulio Nobrega and Pablo Hernandez will also miss the match due to suspension.
The situation could be a lot worse, as Pallardo and Sousa were both doubtful for the match after nearly two months out. The pair, however, trained with the squad today and it is hoped that they will both be ready in time for Getafe's crunch UEFA cup tie on Wednesday.
