Spanish Transfer Rumours
David Villa has reacted to the numerous reports claiming that the player has stated his desire to leave Valencia football club at the end of the current La Liga season. The Spanish international striker had been reported as being so fed up with life in La Liga, under Ronald Koeman, that he is now open to offers from other clubs. The British media have jumped in with both feet and decided that David Villa is Liverpool, Chelsea or Tottenham bound. It's not what you think says Villa...
Press reports, both in Britain and in Spain had taken comments made by the player to a local television show on Sunday evening as what the sports papers like to call 'come and get me' plea.
Villa told the 'minute by minute' show on Channel 9 that "I have always listened when there have been offers and always decided to do what is best for my career, but of course always with the consent of the club as I have a contract; I have to think about my future and that is what I am going to do. I will listen to everything, like I always have."
Those comments have prompted a flurry of media activity and the British press have deduced that
"Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with Villa, while Tottenham are believed to be the latest club to have shown a strong interest and the player admits he would be willing to discuss a transfer." (sportinglife.com)
Clearly alarmed that his comments may have been taken out of context, the Valencia player hurriedly gave an interview to Marca this afternoon, in a bid to 'clarify his comments.'
Villa told Marca " I'd like to clear things up," adding "I said that I have always listened to offers, all my life, as much with Valencia as I did when I was at Zaragoza and at Sporting."
The Valencia player went on to say that "In spite of being in favour at one club, it would show a lack of respect not to listen to offers from other clubs who have taken a fancy to you."
So there you have it.
A bit like Renee the café owner being caught in the cupboard with a waitress - its not what it looks like stupid!
He's just going to sit down with these other clubs and talk to them because he doesn't want to hurt their feelings. What else would he be doing?
You people always have to think the worst. The boy's just trying to nice.
On a more serious note, Villa also spoke about Valencia's precarious situation in La Liga, just 4 points away from the drop zone and admitted "We cant afford to relax."
When asked why Valencia are having such a horrendous season, the 26 year old, striker who has not exactly been in the best form of his career - scoring just 8 La Liga goals this season - said " If I knew what was wrong I'd tell the rest of the dressing room. We go out there with the aim of winning, but sometimes, for one reason or another, we lose."
So there you have it Valencia fans. Nothing to worry about.
