We've decided to take a few liberties with our team of the week this week and play people out of position all over the pitch. We can do that you see. After all, its not as if we are ever going to have 90,000 Barcelona fans waving their hankies at us or that we'll ever get a visit from Ramon Calderon giving us the boot halfway through the season.
Thankfully we can do whatever we want and when player's are turning out the kind of individual performances on show this weekend then its a case of square pegs and round holes.
Pandiani, Forlan and Eto'o simply have to be included and it would simply not be fair to leave any of them out. The two Uruguayans both scored hat-tricks in their respective matches and , in the case of Pandiani, almost had an impact on where the league title ends up this season. Samuel Eto'o finally put in a performance that compares with those of last season and, in spite of not actually scoring a goal, was hugely influential throughout the match. We are going all out in attack and squeezing in Savio somewhere down the left flank. His goal against Nastic capped off a tremendous performance and is a key player in Real's late, but impressive, bid for survival.
Our central midfield pairing also contributed to the goals this weekend as well. Silva continues to draw attention from admirers all over the continent and his performance, goal and assist against Zaragoza will boost his reputation further. Maresca continues to show why he is such a key performer for the seemingly unstoppable Sevilla and provides our team of the week with some stability in midfield.
The versatile Navarro contributed with a vital goal for Mallorca against Racing ,and at right back, Descarga was impressive for Levante in their vital win over Celta.
More goals from our centre halves as well with Murillo scoring with his head to give Athletic the lead against Depor. He is partnered by Eller of Atletico who helped to ruin the party for Getafe whilst ensuring that Atletico might actually qualify for Europe this season.
Palop is given the number one jersey this week with another fine performance that keeps Sevilla's title hopes alive for another week at least.
Murillo (Athletic Bilbao)
Eller (Atletico Madrd)
Savio (R Sociedad)
