Two goals against Betis for Forlan at the weekend and a new contract that ties him to Villarreal until 2010. It couldn’t get any better for the Uruguayan, could it? Oh yes. He gets to partner David Villa up front in our team of the week.
David Villa. Not been at his best of late but scintillating at the weekend and just in time to give Mourinho a fright.
Vicente scored from a terrific run down the wing to remind us all why those injuries have deprived us of one of the biggest talents in Spain over the last couple of seasons. Ronaldinho can play in the middle for us and who is going to argue? He may not be at his best but when he can produce a moment of brilliance such as the pass for Messi’s goal against Depor he would still walk in to any team in Europe.
Casquero makes it into our side for the sixth time this season and is one of the unsung heroes of La Liga. His goal against Zaragoza in Getafe’s comeback from 2-0 down to level the match capped off a fantastic all round performance.
Four goals conceded in the nine goal thriller against Athletic Bilbao might suggest that Racing’s Christian Fernandez had one to forget. Not at all. Worked the left flank tirelessly and scored as well. On the other side, Zambrotta had one of those games where he looks like the composed and assured full back that Barcelona thought they had signed in the summer.
Casillas in goal. What can we say? Real Madrid’s keeper once again ensured his side walked off with an ill deserved three points.
