The best eleven in Spanish football this week features some of the usual suspects, a couple of lesser known entries and, believe it or not, no Barcelona players.
An easy choice for goalkeeper this week following Canizares’ outstanding performance at the Camp nou. The Valencia keeper appears to be back to his intimidating best and made some first class saves to prevent Deco, Ronaldinho and Messi from claiming all three points.
Cannavaro is one of the reasons that Real Madrid have yet to concede in La Liga this season and the Italian captain is living up to his reputation as one of the best, if not the best in the game today. Alongside him is Alvaro (Levante) who raised his game and led from the back with his side down to ten men, standing up to everything Deportivo had to offer.
Corrales of Osasuna makes it into the side following an impressive performance away from home at Celta Vigo and on the other flank is Raul Bravo. La Liga Review has been quick to criticise the Madrid defender in the past, so it’s only fair that the player gets recognition for tightening the Madrid defence, coming on after the unfortunate injury to Cicinho.
Maxi plays down the right wing for us this week following a match winning performance against Sevilla, as always, has a knack of popping up with the goals just when Atletico really need them. One of our favourite players, Raul Garcia makes into the team again for running the show for Osasuna. Alongside him, Diarra, chosen for putting in the kind of performance that his reputation was built upon and for having to compensate for the presence of Emerson lumbering around beside him.
Kapo’s performance against Depor really caught the eye and his two goals capped off an excellent all round display. The player has pace and a terrific shot but is also capable of creating chances for his team mates, as he showed against Recre the week before. Already a fans favourite at Levante, the French striker will only cost 3 million euros should the Madrid side take up the option to sign him from Juventus. A bargain on the basis of these displays so far.
Alongside Kapo in attack is David Villa. Scored against Barcelona on Sunday and was a constant threat, his duel with Carles Puyol always fascinating to watch. Still the best.
