Madrid based AS has reported this morning that Ronaldo could be
set to leave the Bernabeu, with Adriano moving the other way from Inter Milan. The key to the whole deal, according to AS is Julio Baptista, who , occupying one of the non EU places in the Real Madrid squad must leave the club in order to accommodate Adriano.
Ronaldo’s future at Real Madrid has always been in doubt since the arrival of Capello at the club. The Italian coach is legendary for applying a ruthless work ethic to his team play and a player like Ronaldo does simply not fit the ‘Capello’ mould. Ronaldo’s attitude and application will always be a source of speculation with Capello in charge and AS claims that Adriano is the player whom the Italian coach would like to see as his replacement. A curious choice, perhaps, given that Adriano shares more than one similarity with Ronaldo, and I’m not referring to his passport.
Real Madrid sporting director, Pedra Mijatovic, must now convince Baptista to leave the club in order for Capello to allow Adriano to occupy one of the 3 non EU places in the Madrid squad with Diarra and Robinho occupying the other two. Capello has decided that he already has enough players in an attacking midfield position and that, coupled with his preferred tactical formation; Baptista has no future at Real Madrid.
AS is reporting this morning that Mijatovic is currently trying to convince Baptista to accept one of the offers that the club has received for the player. AS claims that Madrid have received a new 16.5 million euros bid from Tottenham for the Brazilian as well as an offer from an unnamed Champions league club.
The problem, according to AS is that Baptista is not willing to leave Madrid and that he is convinced that he can be a success at the club , in spite of the fact that it has been made clear to him that he would spend most of his time on the bench if in the playing squad at all. The player is right to feel aggrieved as he was one of Madrid’s better performers last season alongside Ramos, Cicinho and Robinho.
Reports in the Italian media, meanwhile, are claiming that Adriano is ‘desperate’ to join Madrid. His relationship with Inter coach Mancini is not good and the player, like Baptista, faces a season on the bench. The arrival of Ibrahimovic has complicated matters further for the Brazilian.
