In their fist season back in the primera liga, Celta Vigo pulled off one of the shocks of the season in finishing 6th. Fernando Vazquez deserves much of the credit for a very well organised and disciplined squad that turned the Balaidos into a fortress. Celta won 19 home games last season, a record only bettered by champions Barcelona.
Vazquez will have to cope with the departures of Silva and Sergio and will be hoping that the impressive playmaker Borja Oubina can continue last season’s excellent form whilst striker Fernando Baiano can build on his 13 goals from last season. Anything above tenth place should be considered a success for the Galicians.

Betis have just had a dreadful season in which a 14th placed finish came about after Champions league participation proved to be too great a demand on the squad. They can only hope that the new season provides them with an opportunity to put it all behind them after pulling themselves out of danger in the final stages of the competition.
Their preparations have been hindered, however, by the departure of their first team coach, the popular Serra Ferrer, and the imminent departure of Joaquin. The highly rated winger has finally decided that enough is enough and he is set to leave his hometown club and complete a move to Valencia. It is hard to know whether the resignation of the inimitable President Manuel Luiz de Lopera is a goo thing or a bad thing for the club , although the ‘ego’ himself would assure the fans that it is a disaster.
Another crisis continues to rumble on in the form of the incredible ‘disappearing’ Ricardo Oliveira. The player has finally returned to the club after going ‘missing’ in Brazil but quite how long he will stick around for is a mystery to all but the player himself.
Without the striker and the provider Joaquin, Betis will find it even harder to score goals this season than the last where they had the poorest goal tally in La Liga, managing a meagre 34 league goals all season.
New coach Javier Irureta has a very tough task ahead at a club where expectations remain high.
